Weekday Work + A Contest!!

Having temporarily converted the dining room into a workspace is really paying off. Much thanks to the deer (pun on name intended) husband for his outstanding patience during my creative spurts.

This week has yielded some requests for custom bridal hairpieces as well as an order fir a few headbands [thank you, Sarah Beth!], which led to a bit of a groove. Guess you gotta roll with it when that happens.

Potentially bridal, but not locked in. Made from a fitted ivory tee and ribbon. {Hampton}


Leftover lace and a stone pulled from a vintage cocktail ring. {Davidson}


Wham, bam, thank you glam. Olive and gold is the way to my heart. {Freddy}


The next three were also made by upcycling a fitted tee that was bound for Goodwill. {Dexter}

A bridal clip with a vintage opalescent button and a hint of ivory tulle {Baxter}


And the last one photographed yesterday evening was a third bridal piece featuring ranunculus. {NAME CRISIS}


This is where you come in. Whomever submits the most appropriate regal male name for this piece will receive a custom hairpiece from me for only seven bones, plus shipping. That's unheard of, but I'd really appreciate your help.

Project Love

In honor of the rapidly approaching DeluxeOK Indie Craft Bazaar, I spent a good part of my weekend artsing and crafting at the ark. (By ark I mean our house made of cedar.) It began by overtaking the dining room table. Well, the whole dining room, in actuality.

A (re)Finished Chair

You may remember the before photos from a week or so ago. This was a $3 Goodwill find with original wood stain and horribly stained floral fabric. Dingy.

We used a pillowcase ($.50 from same Goodwill) to cover both chairs. Gray and ivory. Painted the chair a light metallic gold at first because it was some leftover paint I had, but decided it wasn't right. $5 at Hobby Lobby got a can of London Gray paint. And finished!

Will post pictures of the How-to process. Look forward to this. It will include the uber-gentle Cheryl (sewvandervort.blogspot.com) karate-chopping the chair backs out! Hahaha.

DIY Before: $3 Chairs Made Over

Yes, they're not so hot right now. Come Monday night, they'll look like totally different pieces.

We can thank our 50th street Goodwill for these. $6 got me both. In good structural condition, but not so aesthetically pleasing at present: Dull wood, dirty dated fabric, broken (or missing) backs, etc.

Monday nights a couple gals are coming over for a crafting extravaganza at the Whiteside ark. Ark and crafts! Get it? Well...I guess you would only if you knew our house is no typical OKC ranch-style home, but rather an 8-level house of cedar.

DIY: Trashy Pottery

It's no secret I'm a big fan of recycling bottles to use as vases, but this goes a step further. Brilliant. In pictures at least, it looks so believably like milk glass.

Bottle + puff paint + matte white spray paint = Sweet Glory

Not a fan of the can as a vase so much, but would be great as a pencil holder, silverware stand on an informal table, or, with small draining holes cut in the bottom, a darling and cheap planter. Think of it with succulents!

Worse than the time I asked B on our first date...

Nervous as heck today. Sent out my application for Deluxe OK, the Indie Craft Bazaar in OKC coming up in December. (deluxeok.net for more details. If you live in the area, you should come! Free admission, to boot.)

It's quite pathetic how seriously I took this application. As they know nothing of me, I felt that how this turned out would make all the difference. They wouldn't interview me. They just see these forms. Sheesh! What does that say for artistic ability?!

I may or may not have spent a good two hours lining the envelope and practicing different fonts in my handwriting skillset. It just wasn't right though, and that's probably because I knew that it looked like I was trying too hard.







So, I abandoned that and used my letterhead. Guess that's what I made it for, right?


Got to include a coordinating business card, too. Woot!


I'm crossing my fingers so hard that it hurts.

I have to thank Sarah for this excellent review. Holy awesome, and beyond flattering. PS Sarah will be an official member of the Whiteside family soon!!! Finally. ;)

Her boho, out-door, eco-chic wedding was amazing. The olive and coral colors that I couldn't picture when it was explained came together perfectly. And seeing my step-cousin Brandon trying to pull it together as she stood with her mom behind the glass doors, made me dream of finding my true-love. The wedding was so simple, but it was the most beautiful wedding I've ever been to. Brandon's younger brother Zach sang during communion. He's truly a talented individual. Ashley's mom is an arts and crafts phenom! She made four wall hangings, wreaths, and I'm not sure what else. The reception was dubbed "let them eat cake". A nice three-tier cake, along with 6 specialty cakes from Publix, which rivaled cakes from any up-scale bakery. They had "photo booths" of pieces of 7x10 cloth in different patterns that friends of the bride and groom snapped shots from these funky cool cameras. The best was the send off. Most couples only give a small amount of bird seed about the size of a gumball. Ashley made little pouches from left over material and gave three handfuls of seed in each pouch. When you have 30 people throwing that much seed, it can get messy. Then it turned into throw it at each other. We had seed all in our hair, down our dresses, just everywhere.//

Deluxe OK Indie Craft Bazaar

My first art show and sale is coming up! Woot! You can find out more about the this lovely shindig on their website. I'm hoping to meet about a million brides and homeowners, as well as good ole friends with whom I share interests. It's no secret that my move from Nashville to Oklahoma City was filled with much uncertainty about meeting people that revere color the way I do.

(Admit it. When you think of Oklahoma, you think red-earthed-desert, right?)

So what's in store? The debut of my wedding visions portfolio, an actual wedding dress, a million and two handmade crafts for homes-fashion-nuptials, and the like. The list is rather extensive. For example...

More birdseed pouches, several sets with different fabrics:

A buncha types of modern floral arrangements, several with moss and milk glass and some faux flower couture bouquets ...

Handmade wreaths, some from recycled paper, some from woodland creature "action figures"...
